I have always been interested in the impact that a good night’s sleep can have on mental well-being. And, I’m never surprised when I discover more benefits of sleeping well (or side effects of poor sleep). The positives of good sleep usually come as no surprise. It’s the negatives that seem to shock people.
Here’s a list of problems that poor sleep (sometimes even ONE night) can cause or contribute to, hyperlinked to articles discussing their association.
- Anxiety
- Inattention
- Behavioral problems
- Emotional regulation
- Depression
- ADHD (exacerbated by poor sleep)
- Poor memory
